The brand new Allegro train, operated by VR and Russian Railways, will start a new era in travelling between Helsinki and St. Petersburg. With Allegro it takes only three and half hours from city center to another. In addition to Helsinki and St. Petersburg you can hop onto the train from Pasila, Tikkurila, Lahti, Kouvola or Vainikkala and from Vyborg on the Russian side. At the moment there are two daily departures from both cities, but in summer 2011 this amount will double to four, which offers a great opportunity to make a day trip to St. Petersburg.
Making use of travelling
Allegro combines versatile train services with latest train engineering. You can choose between 1st and 2nd class compartment or reserve a separate compartment suitable for e.g. negotiating. Besides, Allegro has a specific play area for children as well as own seats for disabled passengers and people travelling with pets. Allegro also offers great working facilities since every seat is equipped with a socket.
For those travelling in first class Allegro serves free snacks straight to the seats and a possibility to buy soft drinks and alcoholic beverages in the compartment. There are also daily newspapers available in Finnish, Russian and English languages. Besides, the border and customs inspection as well as currency exchange and tax free refunds are made en route, which smooths and speeds up your travelling.
Gastronomic delights on the rail
Allegro’s diverse restaurant services increase further the passenger comfort. The modern atmosphere of Bistro Allegro invites you to enjoy your meal served to the table, or if you prefer, you can just pop by the bar section or buy a handy take-away meal to enjoy in your compartment.
The Allegro staff serves passengers in Finnish, Russian and English. On board you can pay with euro, ruble and US dollar. We also accept Finnish bank cards and the most common credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and Eurocard).
VR and Russian Railways wish you a pleasant journey on Allegro!
