Finnbarents is a joint organization of the Rovaniemi Polytechnic and the University of Lapland. The activities of Finnbarents are based on owner organizations' long-term cooperation with local and international actors in the Barents region.
The idea of Finnbarents is to act as a regional expert organization in the field of Northern Dimension. Finnbarents has the objective of creating a network of specialists in Lapland and in Murmansk region. This will be realized by creating a database, which includes a compilation of organization references and employee CVs and provides a solid register of know-how and skills in Lapland and in Murmansk region. Thus, Finnbarents aims to promote local know-how on Northern Dimension and Russian-issues. Finnbarents has received EU-funding from Interreg IIIA North Kolarctic program for the project "Development of Nordic Pool of Expertise" in order to facilitate these activities.
In addition to the regional development task Finnbarents is also actively involved in many international projects, which are funded by the Interreg IIIA North Kolarctic-, TACIS- and PHARE-programs and by the neighbouring area grants of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Finnbarents has participated in international projects e.g. in the areas of social welfare and health care, environment, technology, tourism and law.

- knowledge of the target countries (North-West Russia and the Baltic States)
- survey of the markets study and research of the area
- project planning and support for international projects
- project evaluation
Training
- procurement procedure of the EU and other international financial institutions
- Project Cycle Management
- different EU and other international funding possibilities in the Northern Dimension area
- The Northern Dimension as a field of action (people, cultures, languages, economical and social situations, environment)
- management of international projects
- Working languages are Finnish, English, Russian, Latvian, Swedish and French.
