Lemminkäinen renovates highway between Tallinn and Narva in Estonia

Lemminkäinen has signed an agreement with the Estonian road service for a road renovation contract on highway E20 between Tallinn and Narva. A 3.5 kilometre stretch of road will be renovated, at the Haljala multi-level junction in the province of Lääne-Virumaa. The European Union will provide some 85% of the financing for this almost 9-million-euro project.

Built in 1972, the stretch to be renovated is on a busy road in poor condition. The 3.5 kilometres will become a four-lane road, as part of a contract including much peripheral work. An 88-metre long highway bridge will be built across the main road, as well as a bridge for pedestrians and bicyclists. In addition, several new connections will be added to the Haljala multi-level junction, 1.5 kilometres of walkways and bicycle lanes will be built, a 5-kilometre stretch of road will be furnished with highway lighting and 350 metres of noise barrier will be erected. The contract includes extensive tree and bush planting.

Activities on-site has begun with earthwork and the project will be completed at the beginning of 2013.

Over the last 12 years, Lemminkäinen has carried out several road projects financed by the EU and World Bank, in Moldova, Ukraine and the Baltic countries.
