DHL expands transit operations in Hamina
DHL Freight (Finland) Oy and Oka Oy have signed a contract on a 20,000 square meter terminal building, which Oka will construct and rent to DHL on a long-term lease. The new building, which will rise in the vicinity of the Port of Hamina, will house a terminal serving transit traffic to Russia.
"Our growing transit business needs modern, purpose-built additional space", says DHL Freight Managing Director Markus Höglund. "Several arguments spoke for Hamina as the ideal location. Approximately 70 per cent of our transit traffic arrives through the Port of Hamina. We already operate two large transit centers here, and thus will be able to utilize the premises and human resources effectively between all three units", he continues.
The first part of the terminal will be ready in March 2008 for DHL to move in. When the unit is finished, DHL will operate a total of 67,000 square meters of high-quality terminal and storage space in Hamina. n addition to Hamina, DHL Freight (Finland) Oy operates transit business in Kotka and Kouvola.
