Konecranes RTGs to Ports in the Ukraine
Konecranes strengthens its presence in European ports. HPC Ukraina, in Odessa, Ukraine has ordered four RTG (Rubber Tired Gantry) cranes and Compania Auxiliar del Puerto SA (CAPSA) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands has ordered two RTGs. The total value of the orders is over 7 MEUR. The cranes will be delivered by January 2008.
Odessa hosts the largest port in Ukraine, the Odessa Sea Trade Port, a major harbor in the Black Sea. HPC Ukraina, the operator of the Odessa Sea Trade Port, is a subsidiary of HPC Hamburg Port Consulting GmbH and a new customer to Konecranes. The RTG cranes will increase the efficiency of container yard handling operations at the port and improve the level of customer service to leading international standards. HPC Ukraina selected Konecranes' high-performing RTGs to be able to cater for the needs of large shipping companies and to maintain its leading position in container transhipment operations in the region. The 16-wheel RTGs have a lifting capacity of 40 tons and are capable of stacking containers one-over-five high and six plus truck lane wide.
Commenting on the order Seppo Hoppu, Director, Eastern Europe, says: "HPC Hamburg Port Consulting GmbH is a well-respected customer and we look forward to prosperous business relations in the future."
Located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of North Western Africa, the Canary Islands is a growing transhipment hub and already moves more than 2 million TEU annually. In order to accommodate for increasing volumes, the latest investment by Compania Auxiliar del Puerto SA (CAPSA) in two RTGs will increase the container handling capacity at the El Este terminal. CAPSA, which is part of Grupo TCB returned to Konecranes due to the good cooperation established through deliveries of similar RTGs to the group's terminals in Valencia. The RTGs, which are equipped with twin lift spreaders, have a lifting capacity of 50 tons and are capable of stacking containers one-over-five high and six plus truck lane wide.
