Positive development in Siberian overflight payments
EU and Russia agreed upon the abolition of Siberian overflight payments at the EU-Russia summit in Helsinki. The overflight payments consist of navigation payments and extraordinary royalty payments.
- This is very good news. The agreement will lower our costs in Asian traffic by over 20 million euros annually after 2013, said Kari Koli, Vice President, International relations at Finnair.
The overflight payments for Finnair are now close to 30 million euros annually. Over half of the sum consists of extraordinary royalty payments on air routes between Europe and destinations in China and Japan. For flights to Thailand and India the navigation payments are according to normal international standards.
Finnair´s Asian traffic is increasing by over 20 per cent a year and Finnair is flying over 30 flights a week to China and Japan.
- Siberian overflight payments are significant for Finnair since the share of Asian traffic is relatively higher for us compared to most other European airlines, Kari Koli said.
