Starman chooses Ortikons Video on Demand System
Estonias cable-TV market leader AS Starman has chosen Ortikon Interactives VODsystem to build its video on demand service. Starman is now piloting the new system and prepares to launch the service by the end of this year. The new application expands Starmans digital TV service offering in the cable network, which covers nearly 50 per cent of Estonian households.
Ortikons VOD solution delivered to Starman is based on the MHP standard, so creating even a large variety of on-demand television services will be most flexible. VOD can include both pay-per-view and subscription based viewings of entertainment, news and education. With the help of new technology the operator can offer VOD viewings also after the broadcasting time hence giving the audience a possibility to choose the most convenient time to watch the movies.
Ortikons solution manages VOD from the operator to the subscriber. It authenticates the user, distributes video portal and video links, delivers video for the subscriber, secures the delivery and handles the connections to the subscriber management and billing systems.
The easy-to-use interface is customised according to Starmans wishes without forgetting the convenience of the subscriber. The interface brings the whole wide range of programmes available on-demand to viewers and gives everyone the joy to select just the right programme just when he wants it. Product Development Manager of Starman, Hanno Liiva commented on the contract:
Ortikon Interactives strong references and the companys long-time experience in digital-TV technologies and service applications were the key elements why we chose Ortikon to deliver our VOD service application. From Ortikon we got the best system to meet our customers needs.
