KCI Konecranes to supply its first RTG-cranes to Ukraine
KCI Konecranes will supply six RTGs (Rubber Tired Gantry) to Illichivsk container terminal. The order was placed by Ukrtranscontainer and is the first RTG-order from a Ukrainian container terminal. Ukrtranscontainer, which has operated the Illichivsk terminal since 2005, is part of the National Container Company, the largest container terminal operator in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States). The cranes will be delivered in the spring of 2007. The value of the order is approximately 9 MEUR.
In 2004 a special development program was initiated for the modernisation of Illichivsk Sea Commercial Port (ISCP) aimed at increasing the container traffic to the port. The contract with Ukrtranscontainer was signed for the realisation of that program and to meet the growing demand of international transportation.
The new Konecranes RTGs are part of the modernisation program, which includes investment in modern container handling equipment for the terminal. Within 10 years, the terminal will increase the annual handling capacity up to 4 million TEU and enhance the competitiveness of domestic exporters. The manufacturing of the new cranes will take place in both Europe and Ukraine.
This is a major project that requires the highest level of qualification and professionalism from start to finish, says Anastas Kokkin, Director of Ukrtranscontainer. Konecranes has more than 10 years of successful operational experience on the Ukranian market, so therefore it was only natural for us to turn to them for reliable, safe and advanced cargo handling equipment.
The Ukraine continues to be a solid market for our lifting applications and we expect Ukrtranscontainer to see a clear decrease in downtime and an increase in productivity through our RTGs, says Seppo Hoppu, Director, Cranes & Services, North East Europe.
Technical features of the RTGs
These 16-wheel all-electric RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50 tons and are capable of stacking containers one-over-five high and six plus truck lane wide. The RTGs feature many operational and environmental advantages and are fully equipped with modern technical features including DGPS autosteering and container positioning system, remote diagnostics and sway prevention system. Handling efficiency is achieved by high hoist, trolley and gantry speeds.
KCI Konecranes own AC Frequency Control System is the most reliable drive for the RTGs. With the highest productivity and the lowest maintenance costs, fuel consumption, pollutant emissions and downtime in the industry, the Konecranes RTG has established itself globally as the state-of-the-art RTG crane.
KCI Konecranes is a world leading crane technology and service-company. Maintenance services are provided for cranes of every make. The product range includes light crane systems, heavy-duty cranes for process industries and shipyards, special harbour cranes for bulk materials and containers as well as reach stackers and lift trucks. In 2005, Group sales totalled EUR 971 million. The Group has approximately 7 000 employees in 38 countries. KCI Konecranes is listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange (symbol: KCI1V)
