YIT Kausta to build new terminal at Vilnius International Airport
AB YIT Kausta will build the new passenger terminal at Vilnius International Airport. The three-storey terminal is scheduled for completion by the beginning of October 2007, and will have a total surface area of about 14,000 m2. When completed, it will serve passengers arriving from outside the Schengen area. The value of the contract is about EUR 28 million (about LTL 97 million). The agreement relating to the contract was signed between AB YIT Kausta, Lithuania's largest construction company, and State Enterprise Vilnius International Airport on May 22, 2006.
The Vilnius International Airport is located in the southern part of Vilnius, about 7 kilometres from the city centre. The number of passengers passing through the airport has been steadily increasing since Lithuania became a member of the European Union. In 2005, the number of passengers already exceeded the 1.28 million mark. The airport's original terminal building dates from 1954, and an adjoining new passenger terminal was opened in 1993.
