Keel laying of Tallink´s new ferry at Aker Yards

The keel of Tallink´s new passenger ferry was laid at Aker Yards, Helsinki Aker Yards and Tallink Grupp signed the contract for the building of the vessel last August. The cost of vessel to be delivered in spring 2007 is approximately 110 million Euro.

The ferry is of a new and innovative design. She will start regular traffic between Helsinki and Tallinn and will be capable to cross the sea between the two cities in 1 hour and 50 minutes. The ice class of the ferry will allow year-around operation. Besides 1,900 passengers, the 185 m long and 27.7 m wide vessel is designed to carry private cars and freight units by having more than two kilometres of vehicle deck space.

Aker Yards delivered on April 18th for Tallink the new generation cruise ferry "Galaxy". In addition to the new vessel, the keel laying of which was celebrated today, Aker Yards´ orderbook includes a sister ship for Galaxy, for delivery in summer 2008.. The previous cruise ferries for Tallink, MS Romantika and MS Victoria, were delivered in spring 2002 and 2004.

The orderbook of Aker Yards´ Finnish yards now consists of in all 15 newbuildings.
