Finland Post to Build a Logistics Centre in Moscow
Finland Post Corporation will build a logistics centre in Moscow, Russia, meeting all present-day logistics requirements. As a result, Finland Post will emerge as a major provider of logistics services in Russia.
Consisting of storage, terminal and office premises, these facilities will total around 40,000m©&Mac247; in floor area. The new logistics centre will provide warehousing, terminal and transport services to the expanding Russian markets.
Its location north of Moscow, outside downtown traffic congestion and with good connections, provides excellent opportunities for efficient transport and distribution services. Finland Post will create a local distribution network in co-operation with its partners.
The building project will begin immediately and the centre will be brought into use in early 2007. Capital expenditure on the centre totals roughly EUR 40 million.
Companies are interested in the expanding Russian markets, reflected in strong growth in the demand for logistics services for Russia. In the emerging Russian logistics market, Finland Posts strength lies in its state-of-the-art warehouse management IT system, enabling the easy implementation of an international multi-warehouse solution for different national markets. Logia Software Oy, a Finland Post subsidiary, is in charge of logistics IT solutions.
This investment in Russia will fundamentally strengthen Finland Posts position in Northern European logistics markets, as did the acquisition of Combifragt Group A/S in the summer. Finland Posts logistics network encompasses all services required for international supply chains. In addition to the soon-to-be-built Moscow logistics centre and that in Mussalo, Kotka, commissioned today on 1 September, Finland Post operates service warehouses and terminals in Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Denmark.
