Nordkalk Corporation purchases lime factory in Russia

Nordkalk Corporation and LSR Group from St. Petersburg have signed an agreement concerning the purchase of Alekseevka lime factory in St. Petersburg region. Alekseevka lime factory is situated in Alekseevka village 120 kilometers to the west of St. Petersburg along the highways and railway leading to Estonia.

Alekseevka lime factory has two shaft kilns and a grinding plant. Total annual production capacity of the shaft kilns is approximately 70 000 tons of quicklime. Factory’s current customer base consists mainly of building material and process industry customers from north-western Russia. The number of employees is 110 persons.

"With this acquisition Nordkalk Corporation strengthens its position as the leading lime producer in the Baltic region. Our aim is to modernize both shaft kilns and produce high quality lime for industrial use. We believe that the demand for high quality quicklime and slaked lime is increasing and we can respond to the increasing demand especially in the St. Petersburg region", says Director Esa Tikka from Nordkalk Corporation’s Central & Eastern Eastern Europe Division.

The president of Nordkalk Corporation, Mr Christer Sundström, sees also new possibilities in this acquisition:

"The step we have taken has brought us a bridgehead position in St. Petersburg region and it enables us a controlled extension of business also in other Russian growth centers. This establishment gives Nordkalk new opportunities to benefit from its wide competence in the lime business. The advantageous location of the Alekseevka factory gives good conditions for an active participation in the strong growth of the St. Petersburg region".
