Transmission capacity released on Fingrid's cross-border connections from Russia

Fingrid, the Finnish transmission system operator, offers to the electricity market parties electricity transmission capacity through its cross-border connections from Russia. As of the beginning of 2006, a total of 900 megawatts (MW) of transmission capacity will become available on these connections.

Practically no change has been made in the service terms for the fixed transmission within the total of 1 300 MW of commercial cross-border transmission capacity since the launch of the service in 2001. Based on the feed back from the customers and due to the changed situation in the Nordic electricity transmission, there is now a need to revise the service terms. More flexible service is called for in order to better cope with the management of the main grid transmission capacity as well as of the regulation capacity in extreme conditions in particular. In addition, measures in the capacity rationing in case of transmissions faults are to be refined, pricing terms to be revised and the capacity reservation processto be developed on more a market terms basis.

Revision of the reservation process for the capacity available as from the beginning of 2006 as well as of the services terms are being prepared such that the new service description will be ready for release within the early autumn 2005.
