Minimal salary increased by one third
Starting from January 1, 2007, the minimal salary in Latvia will be EUR 171, according to the decision of the government. This increase would give additional EUR 64.71 million to the state budget in taxes. However, the employers will have additional expenses.

Businessmen can make money on electronic signature
In the end of September 2006, the system of electronic signature will begin working in Latvia. Such a wide-scale project, where the principle of public private partnership and IT-outsourcing model were used, had been implemented in Latvia for the first time. In future not only state e-administration, but also different e-commerce projects could develop on the basis of this system with the participation of the local businessmen.

Latvia – among the world leaders
In 2006, Latvian GDP could grow by 11%, according to the research on global economic development prepared by the International Monetary Foundation. This index of growth is 10th fastest in the world. Azerbaijan shows the fastest GDP growth, 25.6%. As for Latvia’s Baltic neighbours, in Estonia this index could reach 9.5%, but in Lithuania 6.8%.
