A special construction costs catalogue is ordered by the Latvian Ministry of Economy in order to not let the construction companies to blow up prices for their services. The catalogue is based on data, submitted by builders. It will not be a normative, but just an orientator, which will be useful for experts, planners, builders and clients.

From New York to Riga
In September 2005 a conference on financial and economic security to take place in Riga. Among the participants are Latvian Commercial Banks Association, US Banks Association, the US Embassy in Latvia and others. On August 1-2, the round table discussion will take place in New York, where American and Latvian specialists will discuss the similar issues. Financial security becomes one of the key moments for the prevention of terrorism nowadays. The USA believe that financial transparency is the main armour in fight against terrorism.

Nothing to build of
Summer is the most active period for building new objects, which is why there is high demand for construction materials. Therefore the sellers increased their volume of sold goods for building by 30-35%. For example, Nelss increased this index by 25-30%, OK Buvmaterialiem by 30-35%. Tapeks increased its turnover by 11% in the first half of the current year in comparison with the same period of 2004. However, some materials became deficit, and as a result, the builders cannot finish orders in time.

65 million for combating unemployment
There are only 60.6% of economically active population in Latvia, and the unemployment level is high, nearly 10%. In order to improve these indexes, it is planned to conduct 89 measures for combating unemployment and to spend EUR 92.85 million. For example, people, who look for a job, will be supported, especially youth and those, who approach the pension age, the coarse of unemployed training will be improved etc.

Is Latvia a wholesale base of China?
Latvia is going to work out a conception of cooperation with China, which stipulates locating trade trans-shipment points in Latvias territory: from here Chinese goods could go further to other EU-countries. Such a perspective could change global goods flow. Representative of Latvian Investments and Development Agency in China, Helmuts Kols, said that Latvia has big potential, and there is much interest towards the cooperation both on governmental and business level. Six Latvian companies had already created their subsidiaries in China. The largest Chinese enterprises in Latvia are Liang Zihua, Cen Jing and Vu Tuantuan. Last week a company Huawei Technologies Latvia was registered; it belongs to the IT giant, Huawei Technologies.
