Entrepreneurs have made the Cooperation Council
On May 15, Latvian entrepreneurs fulfilled the requirement of the Minister of Economics, Juris Lujans, for the establishment of a common structure that would represent their interests in negotiations with the government. 26 public organisations signed the statutes of the Cooperation Council of small and milled-sized enterprises and craftsmanship. The first head of this organisation became the president of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Andris Lasmanis.

To introduce unitary accounts
The Council of the Bank of Latvia has decided to accept the IBAN (International Bank Account Number) standards in Latvia. The introduction of the standard will ensure higher quality of automatic processing of payments and assist performance of error-free cross border payments. The new standards will be applied starting January 2004.

Strong increase in Q1 external trade
There has been a dynamic increase in Latvia's Q1 external trade this year. The amount of export has increased by 18.5%, reaching LVL 369.9 million. The export to the countries of the EU was 62.6% of the total export in the fist three month this year, which is an increase of 22.2%, if compared to the Q1 last year.

Retail trade turnover increased by 13%
In the 1Q of 2003, the market of retail trade in Latvia has had a turnover of LVL 586.9 million, which is 13% more than in the respective time period last year.

Denmark and Baltic countries have signed freight traffic agreement
Denmark and the Baltic countries have signed an agreement, according to which these four countries open the market for freight traffic to each other as of October 1 of this year.
