MYSTERIES AND PUZZLES OF MODERN RUSSIAN ECONOMY

For several centuries, in fact from the very beginning of the establishment of more or less sustainable relations between Russia and Western countries, the former due to various reasons had in eyes of the latter a peculiar image of mysterious and puzzling state.

The situation is not that different nowadays in spite of intense co-operation of above mentioned countries as well as vast Western literature dealing with Russian issues. The authors of the book (three professors of St. Petersburg State University) argue that mysteries and puzzles exist rather in people`s minds than in real economic life. Under the circumstances they try to provide their modest contribution to better understanding of the controversial process of transformation currently taking place in Russia.
